Hey You!

I’m Kamille, the Happiness Advocate!

I didn’t set out to be a grief mentor and speaker…

No one asks for that sort of life.

I've had to survive some pretty brutal things—and rise above them to get to this point... but I learned to never let the hard stuff define me. You might not believe me when I tell you the hard stuff is full of miracles, but guess what? It’s full of miracles.

I’m probably a lot like you... a working mama of three with a busy life raising my babies in the modern world.

I’m also a cancer widow.

Our family’s struggle began when my handsome hunk of a husband, Clint, was diagnosed with Chondro-sarcoma, a.k.a. sucky bone cancer.

And it shattered my life.

For a time, it seemed impossible to be happy. Then in one moment, involving a whole lotta prayer and surrender, I realized I was ruining the precious time we had left with my thoughts and attitude.

I knew I had to do something. I had never been a depressed person and I refused to waste another minute down in the shallows. Although I had previously only run when chased, I laced up my sneakers and started running. Soon I found myself crossing the finish line of over a dozen half marathons and two full marathons.

Thirty pounds lighter and full of determination, I learned that life is what you make it.

I couldn’t stop Clint’s terminal diagnosis or save my family from tragedy, but I could rise out of my depression, treat every moment as precious, and run for Clint. So I did.

Still the cancer progressed, and the love of my life passed away two days before his 35th birthday…it was over.

The battle should have broken me. But I wasn’t allowed to break; I had three kids and a business that needed me to get up and keep going. I was all they had. And I had to show them that when someone or something knocks you down in life. . . well, you get back up.

As a grieving widow, I learned to create a new kind of happy. Instead of surviving, I was thriving. I couldn’t depend on my circumstances to make me happy, I knew better. Happiness comes from within and it’s available to everyone at any time, even on the worst of days.

Once I had the courage to be open and honest, focusing on the love, humor, and memories, and being grateful for gifts amid my trials, I was able to really connect with people and with God on a deeper level, enabling me to lighten others' loads.

I’m really here for you, for your richest, happiest, deepest, most joyful life. I’ve experienced too many people who have spent their whole lives feeling unworthy, unconfident, numb, anxious, depressed, angry or overly worried about tomorrow. I’m here to tell you that you can thrive in whatever you’re dealing with, not just survive it.

Have you ever thought about using what you’re going through to discover something unique about you? Perhaps it's your grit, tenacity, determination, or your exceptional gifts? Maybe even how to reclaim your joy?

This human journey is not supposed to be about guilt or shame; it’s about faith. And lots of it.

Just dipping your toe into faith will create more joy in your life--even though you may have to hold your breath like you do on Splash Mountain at Disneyland! I swear that like Br’er Rabbit and Br’er Fox, you don’t have to get stuck in the briar patches of life. I’m here to walk you through, pull the briers out and keep you going.

You got this. And when you don’t, you have me

and my community to reach out to.

You got this. And when you don’t,

I can help lighten your load.

You don’t have to go through this alone.

I know, I understand, and I’m here for you.

You are capable of more than you know!

Yeah, people like to tell me it’s one of those kinds of stories—one-that-they-want-to-read-yet-are-afraid-to-read and yet when they read it, it changes them forever. I like knowing that. It makes me grin . . . and makes everything worth it.
